If you showed up at Sara’s doorstep, you’d better be hungry. Her homemade pasta and sauce, with ingredients that most likely came off her Delran property, was the best in the world. And she’d make it plenty clear that she wanted you to eat. Cooking for her was a joy.rnSara emigrated to the United States from Sicily as a young woman, but always kept her homeland close to her. She had a fig tree, white Sicilian grapes, and oregano and rosemary growing in her yard and even kept a chicken coop for many years. She and husband loved tuning into Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Family Feud. It wasn’t so much that they enjoyed the questions, but they loved rooting to contestants and their faces lit up when they saw them win. rnRosaria’s father farmed in the old country. There was a man there with a wheel for grinding the oil out of the olives. He caught the eye of a young Rosaria. It wasn’t long till she and the late Anthony would be wed. Their 63 year marriage was strengthened by the fact that they did so many things together, especially gardening. She was a warmhearted mother to son, Giuseppe “Joe” (Rosemary) of Delran, though he always had to be mindful lest he see her wooden spoon. Joe quickly became 2nd priority with the births of her granddaughters, Nina (Christian) Torino and Jessica. Her face lit up whenever she saw them; in her eyes they could do no wrong. Also survived by her sister-in-law Enrichetta Greco of Riverside, as well as by many nieces, nephews and friends. rnCome celebrate 89 motherly years Wednesday 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church (St. Peters’ site), Riverside.
