Josephine M. Borger

Josephine M. Borger

Josephine Borger passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in her home with her loving family by her side.

Josephine was a good catholic woman, and it was reflected in her life.  She had a deeply generous and considerate nature which inspired her to constantly think of others before herself.  It was one of the reasons she was always ready to do volunteer work.  Even after retiring as a Bookkeeper for Zubrugg Hospital, she still volunteered there as well as at Deborah Hospital and was always ready to lend a hand for anything at St. Peter’s Church.  Josephine would pass these values on to her own children.  She had the strength to raise six daughters, while instilling in them both the values of the church and the tenacity to become strong women themselves.  Likewise, they carry on her love of family as a whole.

As a young woman Josephine met a gentleman named Joseph Borger at a church dance.  Fortunately they both loved to dance, and had even won a few jitterbug contests.  By 1951 the two were wed, and a few years later moved to Riverside from Philadelphia.  Before Joe’s passing in 2002,  their 50 year marriage was blessed by their daughters: Christine Borger of Pleasantville, Maureen Basehore (Tom) of Shamong, JoAnn Epstein (Herb) of Medford, Gerri Troiano (the late Troy) of Northfield, Beth Ann Magown (Craig) of Westampton and the late Francine Borger, and again by their grandchildren: Tom, Kyle, Brandon, Steven, Jesse and Julie.  Josephine is also the sister of John Morgan, Kathleen Rice and the late Margaret Burger and Mary Sivo.

Come celebrate Josephine’s 86 wonderful years (Mar. 19, 1927-Apr. 9, 2013) Friday from 7-9 PM and Saturday from 9-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside.  Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM Saturday at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church (St. Peter’s Site), Riverside.  Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers  memorial gifts may be made either to Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls 1000 W. Lycoming St. Phila., PA 19140 or to America’s Keswick 601 Rt. 530, Whiting, NJ 08759-3599.

  9. Florence Kempista and Denice Becker says:

    Hello to all,

So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was a wonderful lady. When my stepfather died, she was on her way home from shopping but stopped in to check on my Mom, Florence Kempista. They had a lovely visit.

I last saw her at the Delran Seniors meeting and she described how she was moving from the family home on Jefferson Street. Many memories. In fact, my first memory of your family was your father as he used to drive my sister to work every day as they both worked at the Frankford Arsenal. This was their form of carpooling, although he wanted to do the driving.

Your parents were wonderful people and we are all better to have known them. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.

    Sincerely,
Denice Kempista Becker and Mom, Florence Kempista

  10. Loretta Kempista Davies says:

So sorry to hear of Jo’s passing. I will fondly remember how she consoled me when my husband was sent to Viet Nam. Joe would drive me to work at the Frankford Arsenal every day since we worked together at the Arsenal. I lived on Monroe Street at that time. Jo was always smiling and had a kind word for everyone. I will always remember her for her cheerful attitude about life. She was a neighbor and friend and brought true meaning to the quote “Friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly..”

    My condolences to her family.

    Sincerely,
    Loretta Kempista Davies
