Shirley Woodington

Shirley Woodington

Whoever said silence is golden had clearly never met Shirley. She loved being around people and could chit-chat with just about anyone. She was always up for a game of pinochle or to track down a yard sale. At her home in Delran she could often be found rooting for the Phillies, watching General Hospital, reading a Louis Lamour novel or listening to some Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. But, what she loved most of all was her family. That’s why she was always ready to head off on a hunting, fishing or camping trip on the family’s land up in Chatsworth and it was even more apparent by the way she so enjoyed spoiling the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As a young woman Shirley “accidently” stepped on the foot of her neighbor, Elmer, just for an excuse to introduce herself. Before long their 62 years of marriage would begin. Before his passing in 2011 their lives were blessed by their children: Norman “Glenn” (Joyce) of Mt. Holly, Gary (Karen) of Burlington, Linda Gilbert (Bob) of Delran, Greg (Cynthia Brown) of Manahawkin and Gordon (Robin) of Mt. Ephraim. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and her sister, Dorothy Yansick of Delran.
Come celebrate Shirley’s 79 wonderful years (Feb. 16, 1934-Aug. 18, 2013) Friday from 6 PM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 8. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Samaritan Hospice 5 Eves Dr., Suite 300 Marlton, NJ 08053.

Always extremely friendly to me and my family – my last memory was of Mrs. WOODINGTON telling me how much she missed her husband while walking after church. A wonderful woman who will be missed.

  2. The Miller Family says:

My family can remember Shirley and her husband Norm, my father Howard use to hunt with the Woodington family. I remember being in the woods as a child and Shirley being chased and bitten by a goose on the caboose. She was a very pleasant lady, very nice and friendly.
They also belonged to a bowling league with my parents. I can remember looking at pictures and seeing All of them having a good time at the bowling alley in Riverside/Delran on Chester Ave.
God Bless to her family prayers are with you in your time of loss.
