Lynn Van Sciver (nee Yoka)
It wasn’t that Lynn was stubborn, she just knew her way was better. Come what may, she was going to do what brought her the greatest joys in life. Fortunately, that usually meant spending time with those around her. She worked at Kmart in Delran for 25 years, but it was never for the paycheck. She simply loved to socialize with all of her coworkers, and would chit chat with everyone that came through those doors. The same was true of her 25 years in the Moorestown School District. Being a bus driver and later a paraprofessional helping challenged students was always more than just a job. Many of the kids became like family to her. Likewise, for many years she and her husband, Bob spent time at the Baker’s Acres Campground. The scenery was nice, but her friends and neighbors there kept her coming back. But, all this paled in comparison to her grandchildren. To say she was a doting grandmother would be an understatement; they were the center of her universe.
In her teenage years, a mutual friend introduced Lynn to a young Marine named Robert Van Sciver, Sr. During his enlistment she wrote him a letter every day. Upon his return the two were wed, and she spent many years traveling as a military wife, before the two returned and made their home in Delanco. Together, their lives were blessed by their children: Robert, Jr. (Lois) of Riverside, Scott of Burlington and Aaron (Aundrea) of Marlton and again by their grandchildren: Robert, III, Jessika, Alixandra, Jackson and Ryan. Lynn is also survived by her sister, Lorraine Gambone (John) of FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Antionette Yoka and her sister, Lois Yoka.
Come celebrate Lynn’s 65 tenacious years (Jan. 24, 1948-Sept. 30, 2013) Thursday from 7-9 PM and Friday from 9-9:45 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow Friday 10:30 AM at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church (St. Joseph’s Site), Beverly.

I was one of those very fortunate people to have met Lynn as I walked through the doors of Kmart more than 25 years ago. Lynn was so full of sunshine, we later became very friendly and I went on to watch her first grandson bobby. If you didn’t know anything else about Lynn, you did know the love she had for her children and grandchildren, her love was endless as they were her life. I’m praying for Lynn’s husband bob and her children and grandchildren that they some how find comfort In how many people loved Lynn, one of the most kind and loving people I have ever known, I was very fortunate to have known Lynn and her family and my strongest memory is how the family always made you feel welcomed and how much love they all have for each other. It’s a sad day when a real friend passes away. But our memories of the fun time will always remain. She was there for all of us when I went through cancer. Thank you, Lynn Van Sciver for being a great friend. Our prayers are with Bob Sr., Bob Jr., Scott, Aaron and their families. Lorraine always remember how much you loved her.

Bob and family…..I know there are no words that will heal the heartache and empty feeling that each of you are experiencing at this extremely difficult time but please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. They say Heaven is lined in streets of gold and everyone has a mansion……I can only imagine the awe on your beloved mothers face when she arrived on the wings of the angels. May you somehow find comfort knowing she is Resting In Paradise.

My sympathies to Bob and family. Lynn was such a nice person. She always had a smile on her face every time I saw her at Kmart and the doctors office. Great sense of humor and just and overall beautiful person. I will miss you !!!

Lynn , you have known me my entire life . Every time I came into town , one of my first stops was your house. Growing up , Bobby and I did all our 1st together , well almost all our 1st ! You always loved me and treated me like one of your own , I am so glad the last time I saw you , I was able to tell you I loved you. The world has lost a wonderful person and some of us have lost a loving mom !! I wish I was able to come say goodbye , but I don’t think I could say it even if I was there. You and Bob meant so much to me I could never thank you enough. You will always be in my heart , rest in peace! I love you !!!!

I have sooo many great memories from your house growing up, I m lost for words, I held my tears until I walked out of the funeral home tonight, I will never forget all that we did at your house growing up!!!!

I went to St Peters and Holy Cross with Lynn and I was so saddened to hear of her passing. She was always the same lovely person no matter how long it was since you had seen her last. It was always apparent how much she loved her family. God Bless all of you and Lynn rest in peace.
I’ve known Lynn since our high school years and Holy Cross. What a fun person! I always enjoyed running into her at Kmart. I’ll miss seeing her at the reunions and catching up about her grandkids. She certainly LOVED each of them. May God bless her family during this sad time.
This is a sad time for all of those who knew Lynn. I shared three of her grandchildren with her and she will be sorely missed by them. Hope she is watching over them and is now at peace.
