Robert Emerson Slough

You can be certain that you’ll like your nickname if you pick it yourself. That’s exactly what “ Bullet Bob” did. People that didn’t know him by that moniker probably referred to him as the Captain. He always left people smiling with his wit and charm, but there was no denying that he had devilish ways: “You’re my favorite child, don’t tell the others” he’d playfully tell his kids and grandkids. He made sure his children stayed competitive in everything they did. If he missed a grandkids game Bob made multiple phone calls to check on the score. He knew the value in staying competitive; his oratory skills earned Bob a journalism scholarship to Penn. His social ways always kept him active in the community: Bob served on the Park Commission in Cinnaminson and always worked the pols. He twice enlisted in the military serving in Okinawa and China and later during the Korean War. He retired from RCA having worked in Camden, Princeton and N.Y. Spare times found him playing a little tennis and cheering for the Pirates.
A few years behind Bob in High School was a young Dolores O’Keefe. They both had brothers who played ball together. The brothers told them that they had found their perfect mates. Of course the information came with a price: Bob and Dolores both paid the demand of 25 cents. The half dollar investment was a small price to pay for a 64 year union that was blessed by 4 children: Dr. Carolyn Zimmerman (Van), Marianne Gregory (Dave), Robert Slough, and JoEllen Bernardini (Steven) and 11 grandchildren.
Come celebrate 88 great years Friday 9 to 10:20 a.m. at Holy Name Church, 260 Conrow Rd, Delran where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30. Interment at Brig. Gen. William Doyle Cemetery will be private at the family’s convenience. Donation in lieu of flowers to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300 Marlton, NJ 08053 will be appreciated.
