Caroline Azzari Cueto departed this life unexpectedly on October 7, 2017, as the result of an unfortunate fall a few days earlier. With her beloved family at her side, she left peacefully to enter into God’s Heavenly Kingdom.
She was born in Swedesboro, N.J., the youngest of six children on July 29, 1937, to Rosina and Giovanni Azzari. A proud resident of Swedesboro, she was known and loved for her many talents and volunteer work. Caroline was a frequent patron of the Swedesboro library, where spent hours reading and dreaming. Her beautiful soprano voice was heard regularly at St. Joseph’s Church. There was never a question in the minds of young couples planning a wedding – Ms. Azzari would be the vocalist.
Soon after graduating, Caroline accepted a secretarial position in Philadelphia, PA. She could be seen every week-day morning in front of Snyder’s News Stand waiting for a public service bus that would take her into Philadelphia. Evenings would find her back home with family for homemades and gravy, and then visiting her friends to play lively rounds of Pinochle and Gin Rummy.
The years went by, and eventually Caroline’s friends were introduced to a tall, dark, and handsome gentleman by the name of Benjamin Cueto, who would eventually become her dearly beloved husband. They moved to New York where Caroline became an employee of Time-Life, a position she savored for it put her in touch with the world. After moving to Puerto Rico, their daughter Crista was born and the tiny island became a favorite tourist destination for relatives of the ‘boro. Their life journey the took them to Reston, VA, and then Plantation, FL where Cara was born. Caroline became an active member of the PTA, and was a cherished member of the choir at the Parish of St. Maurice. She began Crista and Cara’s education at an early age with weekly visits to the local library.

Caroline was an aficionado of pasta, football, Scrabble and music. On Saturday afternoons, she could be found jumping on the coffee table shouting at the television “Go, Go” while watching a Hurricane running back rush toward the end zone for the ultimate touchdown. The same enthusiasm would exist while she listened to a recording of “Nessum Dorma”. “Sing It!” she would shout out as Pavarotti sang his last “Vincero”. However, nothing, nothing captured her heart as did the birth of her grandchildren. Those angels became her precious gems in her Golden Years spent in Orlando, FL.
Caroline’s spirit lives on in Benjamin, her devoted husband; in her beloved daughters Crista Cueto (Firoz Dattu) and Cara Elias (Brian), and also in her precious grandchildren, Caroline Grace and Josey Elias, and Sabrina and Raffi Dattu. She is survived by her loving sister, Gloria Centonzo and many dear nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Rosina and Giovanni Azzari, brothers Alessio and Edavide (Dave) Azzari, and sisters Angelina Casella and Lydia Cuccinotta.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life by attending a Mass of Resurrection at 2 P.M at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Joesph’s Church on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Visitation with her family will begin at 12:30. P.M. Interment will be private. Lasting gifts can be made in her name to either the St. James Cathedral Choir of Orlando, Friends of the Music Ministry, 215 North Orange Ave, Orlando Florida 32802 or to Friends of Gloucester County Public Library, 389 Wolfert Station Road, Mullica Hill 08062.
