Gloria H. Dickson

Gloria H. Dickson

Gloria (Hoag) Dickson, of Woolwich Township NJ, passed to eternal rest on December 8, 2017. She was born on March 28, 1931 in Rouses Point NY and enjoyed her 86 plus years to the fullest.

Gloria was a graduate of Rouses Point High School and after graduation was employed by Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point for over 13 years.

Gloria married her grade school crush David in 1961 and their marriage endured for over 52 years until his death in 2013. They resided in the Plattsburgh NY area until moving to Stillwater NY in 1974. In 2013 they moved to Woolwich Township NJ to be closer to family.

Gloria always loved to sing and her earliest memories were those of performing for friends and family. She sang in church choirs throughout her life and was nearly a four-decade staple in the Mechanicville NY United Methodist Church choir. Through some strange twist she was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals’ fan and was known on more than one occasion for her
bravery, cheering for them at Brooklyn Dodger and NY Giants games. Her other great passion was something lost in today’s world, actual correspondence via mail. She was known to send cards and letters on a near continuous basis, Christmas card writing was her ultimate joy.

Gloria is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Julie Dickson, grandchildren, Thomas and Katherine, as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, David A. Dickson, her brother, Carson B. Hoag and her sister M. Eileen Hoag.

Come celebrate 86 great years Saturday December 16, 10 a.m. at Daley Life Celebration Studio, 1518 Kings Hwy. Swedesboro, NJ where there will be a service at 11 a.m. Interment Lake Park Cemetery. Memorial donations in Gloria’s name to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund (heartlandhospicefund.org) will be appreciated. Share a Gloria memory at |ifecelebrationstudio.com.

Gloria was such a treasured friend. We have missed her since their move to New Jersey. There are so many memories that will always be with my family. The evening strolls thru the neighborhood and the afternoon tea parties. Gloria helped me survive the years of raising our four children. She and David enjoyed listening to the many tales of the lively house next door. Our condolences to Randy, julie and family. God’s Peace and Love be with you.

  3. Rev. Dr. Alan C. Rhodes says:

I was Gloria and David’s pastor for 8 years in Mechanicville. NY UMC. They were fine people and good friends. I will always remember Gloria’s beautiful voice and kind ways. We shared a special bond with our shared roots in Clinton County and our common friendship with our former pastor, the late Rev. William Malpass. We will miss her annual Christmas cards!
