Olga Cintron-Santiago

Olga was surrounded by her family as she went home to be with her Lord in the early hours of February 27, 2023 following a brief health battle and complications from surgery. Born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Olga spent most of her youth in Brooklyn, NY. In her life she had many jobs from working as a teletype operator at Union Carbide, a daycare worker at Beckett Christian Preschool, and a medical transcriptionist, but Olga found her real calling late in life as a grandmother. She was the perfect babysitter, best friend and spoiler-in-chief who held the best sleepovers and had a never-ending supply of ice cream. When there was a community need, she was always there to fill it – she spent most of the 90’s involved in the Missionettes Program at Beckett Assembly of God where she was active with the Rainbows Club. If her TV was on she’d be checking out some Hallmark Channel, Wheel, GMA or Access Hollywood. Don’t worry if you missed it: Olga would fill you in. She never forgot about her New York roots (she had walked the Brooklyn Bridge many a time) and she cheered on the Mets and the Giants. She kept her mind sharp with all kinds of games; Rummikub, Sequence and Catch Phrase; and she cooked with the best of them: Olga made the best pastelon and just about any other Puerto Rican dish. She loved to bowl, played a little tennis, and did a little sewing, but you’d most likely find her sitting next to her husband at Lake Narraticon with a rod in her hand, trying to catch the “big fish” she referred to as “George”. More than anything she loved sharing the Good News; Olga’s was a life dedicated to Christ.
In the early 70’s, Olga was a beautiful bridesmaid who would be partnered up with a handsome groomsman named Nelson at a family wedding. After several years of communicating, they would realize that their connection was something special. He’d move to Puerto Rico to join her and they married shortly after. Their 47-year marriage was blessed by 3 children: Lenny (wife: Lety), Rebecca, and Debbie (husband: Mike); and later was blessed with grandchildren: Ariela, Levi and Rachel. She is predeceased by her 9 brothers and sisters, and survived by her sisters Carmen “Suru” and Carmen “Sory”.
Come celebrate 73 great years Friday 6-8 p.m. and Saturday 10-11 a.m. at Word of Truth Fellowship, 170 Franklin Street, Swedesboro where there will be an 11 a.m. service. Interment to follow at Lake Park Cemetery, Swedesboro.
