“Nanny’s” Boost only came one way: with cracked ice. For years she used a special instrument to break it perfectly. When it broke she modified a spoon to get the cubes to break just the right way. She kept her family warm, not just with her love but with a never ending stream of Afghans she crotched. Her family was also well fed: deviled crabs and potato pancakes were favorites, but she was best known for having snacks everywhere. She monitored the world from her front porch and especially loved watching the neighborhood school kids at Halloween. She loved the sounds of Lawrence Welk, the drama of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and the challenge of any card game. For years she worked at the watchcase factory and the Columbo Club, but found her greatest joys as a homemaker.rnrnShe was wife of the late Frank P. and mother of the late Frank J. (Sandy); last surviving sibling of Francis, Sylvester “Buddy”, Albert, Joe, Marie Coyle, Adell Davenport, Elizabeth Shaffer, and Dolores Alloway; grandmother of Donna (Lester), Tim (Deb), Steve (Carol), the late Michael J. and the late Honey J; great grandmother of Crystal, Ryan, Amber (Pat), Steve (Karen), Kristen (Tom), and Mykalann; great great grandmother of Tommy, Angelina, and Brooke; and is survived by many nieces and nephews.rnrnCome celebrate 92 fiesty years Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro Street, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery. Donations to Jesus, the Good Shepherd Parish, 102 Middleton Street, Riverside will be appreciated. rnrn rn

They are all united again and forever…. the nine will have lots to talk about and share. May they all rest in peace and watch over us all.
Aunt Josephine was always doing something for someone and I never heard her complain. I will always remember the good times we had at her shore house and how she would take me shopping in the City when it would take me forever to find something I liked. She never ran out of patience. I am so sad not to have any one left in my Dad’s family, but we have their memories.
My pop pop used to pick me up from school and tell me he sold my sister to the circus. Then he would say he had a surprise for me. He would then drive me to Aunt Jospehine’s house and my sister would be having a glass of boost and one would be waiting for me along with some cookies. She also made the best aftgans i have ever owned. She knew the secret to a great boost too
I remember the fun times at the club playing pool, going to the chicken house for eggs, going crabing for soft shell crabs for her & the fun at the shore. But most of all, her cooking potatoe pan cakes for a contest to see who could eat the most; my Dad or I. I had so much fun at her house with her and uncle Frank that there is just too much to mention. I am so glad to say that it is a blessing to have had too much fun to write it all here. I miss them all and am glad that all the brothers and sisters are with each other again.rnMay they all rest in peace and pain free.

Rest in peace Aunt Josephine. I’ll always remember coming to your house to do your hair and making me laugh.
So sorry for your loss. She is in a better place. She is with her brothers and sisters and probably very happy.
I remember many good and fun things about Aunt Josephine. Going to her house with my dad and stopping at her house at the shore. One of my most recent memories was when my brother and I paneled the inside of her Riverside house. We spent many weekends there and I probably got to know her the most. May she and all my Stellwag aunts and uncles and my dad rest in peace and be united forever. I truely miss them all very much.
Bud and I spent many happy times at your home. We got to know you well when we worked on the paneling in your livingroom. We know you turly loved that paneling and we are sorry that we can not honor you wish to place a piece of it with you for all time. Also am glad I was able to help you when you had your knee surgery. I too remember Josephine for her beautiful afghans; she made more of them then anyone I know. I like boost but not as much as when she made it; she would take ice and crack it over a glass (not from an icemaker) then pour the boost over it. Delicious!!!rnI also remember the times she would get crabs for us! For those of you that don’t know me; my mother & Josephine were cousins. Thanks for the memories Josephine; may you rest in peace!
Some of my fondest memories of my Aunt Josephine was on July 4th of 1948 when she was my maid of honor.My latest memories was the time we spent together just before Easter. She was a loving caring person always offering up a good boost. You will always be loved and missed. Margie
