Emily knew that if you fill a house with love it becomes a home, but she also knew that if it were filled with food a crowd would soon follow. And with a love of family and an uncanny ability to cook, her favorite place to be was at the stove. If a holiday or family event was approaching, you could rest assured she’d be ready and willing to host at her home in Riverside. And if you just happen to be in the neighborhood and stop by, even with an army of people, she’d think it rude if she didn’t drop everything and prepare a meal fit for a king. But for Emily the food was ancillary, filling her home with friends and family was central. Nothing brought a smile to her face faster than the grandkids. With her knack for spoiling them, they seldom wanted to leave, and she never wanted to see them go. But when she did slip away for some leisure time, it was always down to the casinos to fight the one-armed bandits. Win or lose, it was always fun.rnOne day in the 1930s Emily donned a bright red hat. It was enough to catch the eye of a young man named Frank. It gave him the excuse he needed to strike up a conversation, and it wouldn’t be long till they were married. They’d be together for 52 years before his passing in 1992. Their lives would be blessed by their children Michael (Maryanne) of Haddonfield, Helen Parker (Ronald) of Delran, Frank, Jr. (Joyce) of Delran, Dennis (Gerry) of Delran and Debbie Bracken (Barry) of MD, as well as their 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She could often be found chatting for hours on the phone with her sisters: Rose Dulo of Audubon and Helen Thurman of Riverside.rnCome celebrate 91 wonderful years Friday from 8:30-11 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 at St. Casimir, Riverside. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery, Riverside. I will miss her. She was so sweet, and always laughing. Speaking of laughing….my fondest memory of her is when she and her Sister Rosie got to laughing. I’ve never seen anything like it and I will never forget it. She was a gem! My deepest sympathies to her family.
She was the best. I will miss her so much. We had alot of fun doing all kind of things together especially the casino and going out to dinner. I was so lucky to have such a great mother in law. I love you mom.
Mom, you were the best. No one will ever take your place. Now you can be in heaven with Pas. We loved the two of you like nobody could be loved. Will miss you forever. Joyce And Frank
This lady was one of the funniest people i knew. Eventhough, i only knew her for a little bit she was a amazing lady! I wish i knew her longer then i did like i said before she was a amazing lady full of spunk and life. I will miss her and i know this world will to.
Aunt Emily was a fabulous woman–a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and most of all, an adoring wife. She was madly, passionately and wildly in love with Uncle Frankie, and he quietly felt the same about her. She was full of fun and mischief, but she was the first one to console a family member or bring them home to live with her. My Dad had a very special relationship with her–she was his confidante and friend. After my mother died, he found his way to Lippincott Avenue more often for some unconditional love and something good to eat. She was always happy to see him and talk to him, and she made him feel very special, particularly in the last years of his life. She was terrific fun at family parties, dancing with Aunt Helen and laughing and kibitzing with Aunt Rosie. Her laughter could be heard above the crowd. She and Aunt Rosie could get laughing so hard they would have trouble breathing. Faye and I affectionately referred to them as The Aunts. She was so kind to me, and I love her very much. I will always remember her laughing. I am glad she is back with Uncle Frankie. I think she was adorable.
