Charlotte A. Lafferty

Charlotte A. Lafferty

She was quiet, shy and unassuming, but, you’d better have stayed out of her way in the kitchen. She fed 8 kids in waves with a never ending stream of sandwiches, casseroles, and “cowboy” soups. She also managed to keep everyone clean and pressed and instill in them the proper way of doing things. Being from “the Northeast”, she didn’t learn to drive until she’d moved to Riverside. After that it was tough to keep track of her and her 1962 Falcon. She also found the time to work in the front office at Holy Cross H.S. Later years found her working on Genealogy (in the days before the internet), sewing, doing needlepoint and enjoying Irish music.rnShe was approached by a young man called Hank (Charles) at a Kensington Dance. Their 59 year marriage would be blessed 8 children (all convinced they were her favorite): David A. (Roxane), Paul V. (Kimberly), Matthew C.(Tenley), John R. (Kara), Anne M. Bowman (Thomas), Sheila Richmond (Reid), Christine M. McNulty (Robert), and Elizabeth J. Garner (Joseph); 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, David Montgomery and sister, Elizabeth Zalot.rnCome celebrate 83 motherly years Friday from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. at St. Casimir’s Church. Interment BGWCD Veteran Cemetery, Wrightstown. Donations in lieu of flowers to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053, will be appreciated.rn

As quiet and shy as Char presented, her life evolved full of love for her husband Hank and all their children and grandchildren. Her smile and warmth lit the room she entered but it was her stories about raising her children that would truly crack your ribs. We’ve lost a wonderful friend but know she now is in the loving arms of our Lord and has won her victory in Jesus. To Hank, our Silver Fox, and all their children and grandchildren, please accept our deepest sympathy and prayers.
