Rita M Kilbride
rnIt has been said that generosity is when another person’s happiness is more important than your own. For Rita nothing was more important than those around her. As the mother of nine, her focus was always on her children. And although she ran a home where every meal was the size of Thanksgiving, while continuing to work, she still found the time every Saturday to pack the car with upwards of 20 kids to go to the movies. A natural born people person, she befriended everyone who crossed her path. Whether it was a new co-worker or just a stranger at a Dunkin’ Donuts, she was always fast to strike up a conversation. Her generous nature even gave her the patience to be a lifelong fan of the Eagles and Phillies. rnIn her younger years Rita attracted many suitors, however a young man named George J. Kilbride was able to win her heart. Although he passed away in 1979, their lives were blessed by their children: Stephen (Kathy) of North Carolina, Kenneth (Margaret) of West Deptford, Patricia Eadie (Douglas) of Mt. Laurel, George (Kelly) of Delaware, Paul (Natalie) of Florida, Joseph (Sharon) of Riverside and the late Anna Marie Knapp, Denise McAllister and William Kilbride. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her sister Rosanna O’Sullivan (Joseph) of PA, her sons-in-law Tom and Bill, daughter-in-law Linda and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was the daughter of the late Angelina and William Weir. Rita was lucky enough to find love a second time with her longtime companion Fred Bright of Mt. Laurel. rnCome celebrate Rita’s 79 years of life (12/4/1930-8/17/2010) on Saturday August 21 from 9 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 11. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery, Riverside. rn

AS RITA’S OLDEST SON STEVE I GUESS I HAVE THE MOST EARLIEST MOMENTS OF THE KILBRIDE CLAN. MANY YEARS AFTER I JOINED THE MILITARY AND WENT TO VISIT HER, I ASKED HOW SHE RAISED NINE KIDS BACK IN THE EARLY DAYS. SHE ALWAYS HAD TIME TO FEED,DRESS AND TAKE CARE OF NINE KIDS AND TO THIS DAY I HAVE NO IDEA HOW SHE DID IT. ALOT OF PEOPLE THINK MY DAD WAS THE GLUE BEHIND OUR FAMILY, BUT LET IT BE KNOWN SHE WAS. i KNOW MY MOTHER LOVED FRED, BUT I KNOW THAT MY DAD AND BY TWO SISTERS, ANNE AND DENISE AND MY BROTHER BILL WERE THERE TO MEET HER AT THE GATES OF HEAVEN. THERE NEVER WAS A MORE LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER THAN RITE. YOU WILL BE MISSED MOM.rnrnLOVErnSTEVE

Such a wonderful tribute that was written above about cousin Rita. I’m sure there will be many stories told about her in the days/weeks to come. Aunt Rita was always a person I revered. I always felt in Aunt Rita’s eyes that i could do no wrong. but if i did something wrong she covered up for me. I will always remember the times she was able to come over for some SuperBowl games and I would ask her if she wanted a shot of whiskey and she would just look at me and laugh. Also the trips to the racetrack were always eventful. I never saw anybody get so excited over a $2.00 win bet in all my life. Aunt Rita put everything she had into everything she did and that is what i will remember the most.
She was my Godmother. That in itself made her special to me. It’s funny. We never had really deep conversations but I’ll never forget the advice that she gave me concerning a girl I was dating in high school. Very simply she said,”Are you sure about that one? I don’t really like her much.” It was “subtle”. She was right. Within a few months that girl was gone and I had met my wife to whom she gave approval. Of the many memories, that’s the one that will stick forever. God Bless You Aunt Rita
