Like many teenage girls from Philly she vacationed in Wildwood. There she met a guy named Bob. Shortly after their meeting he was drafted and left for California. She left a note for her family and hopped on a train bound for the west coast where they married. When Bob was sent overseas she returned to Swedesboro and stayed with her in-laws and awaited his return. She became a lifelong member of the Bethesda UM Church and a member of the Tri C Sunday School. She also was a volunteer treasurer at the Swedesboro Public Library for over 35 years. There Betty was an unofficial book reviewer: card holder 21A would write good, very good, or excellent in the back of every book she read. It wasn’t in her to give a bad review. Volunteering however, was: she gave her time to the Red Cross Blood Bank and Underwood Hospital. Many child patients will recall the hand puppets she helped make for them. rn rnAfter her handsome soldier returned home, she and the late Robert would be blessed by 3 children: Lynne (Don) Stiles of Mannington, Beryl (Joe) Almond of Pennsville, and Don (Dee) of Beaumont, CA, grandchildren: Noelle Hill, Kevin Stiles, Joanne Helmick, Charlee Pensak, Brittany Simmens, and Jordan Almond and 4 great grandchildren.rnCome celebrate 90 book reviewing years Monday from 10AM at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro where the service will be at 11AM.
