Shun Idleness; it is a rust that attaches itself to the most brilliant of metals. – Voltaire. Anna’s heart of gold was never tarnished, and certainly not through inactivity. With a seemingly endless supply of energy, she made use of every minute of every day. To enter her home in Riverside, she could always be found as busy as a bee. At her sewing machine she made everything from her drapes to clothes for Barbie that were used by her daughters and later passed to her granddaughters. In the rare event that her kitchen wasn’t filled with the aroma of fresh pie and homemade bread, she could still be found there canning her own vegetables. When outside of her home she was always there for her church. She was a member of St. Casimir’s Holy Rosary Society, the Senior Society as well as working bingo and spending many, many hours cooking pierogies and chrusciki for the carnival. But she was also always up for a trip to the casinos or a good round of cards. When blessed with grandchildren they became the new focus for her energy. She’d think nothing of grabbing them up and running off to the movies, taking them down to the shore or off to meet Santa. Even when they were not staying the night at grandmom’s, a day of dancing to Lawrence Welk sent them home ready for bed.rn Originally from Shenandoah, PA, that is where Anna would meet, and eventually marry a young man named Benjamin. Before his passing in 1977, their lives were blessed by their daughters: Karen Cassidy (Harvey) of FL., Judy Derrico (Tom “Moo”) of Delran and Sharon Simpkins (Mark) of Delran. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ryan, Lynsey and Harvey B. Cassidy, Patrick, Gregory and Nicholas Derrico and Mallory, Kristin and Jillian Simpkins, as well as her great-grandchildren: Amelia, Landon and Benjamin. In the years after her husband’s passing, many of her years were brightened by the special friendship of the late James “Pop Pop Jim” Parker.rn Come celebrate Anna’s 89 wonderful years (April 1, 1923-May 24, 2012) Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 9-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM at Resurrection Parish (St. Casimir Site), Riverside. Interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Riverside. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Samaritan Hospice 5 Eves Dr., Suite 300 Marlton, NJ 08053.rn

Karen, Judy, Sharon & Families:rnrnI was very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, Anna. Although my family & I had not been in touch recently (although we always looked forward to that annual christmas card from your mom!), I personally will always have fond memories of her and the time we spent together as family when I was much younger. Please be comforted that she had a long and productive life, and that she is at rest now. May God bless her.rnrnTake care of all, rnrnGary Grimes
