Charlotte Ann Surratt Zappala

Charlotte Ann was born in Delaware on March 17, 1939 to Dennie and Josephine (Farmer) Surratt and raised in Deepwater, New Jersey. She passed away peacefully at home on Saturday November 7th, 2020. After Charlotte graduated from Penns Grove High School, she enjoyed working for the telephone company and fun times with her friends cruising in her 1957 black Chevy coupe with red interior. She met Harry Zappala through her best friends, Marie and Tommy. After that, they were inseparable and the four of them enjoyed many years of family fun and vacations. Charlotte and Harry married on September 19, 1964 and soon welcomed their first child, a son, Harry Alan. A daughter, Susan Carol, followed shortly after. Charlotte was the bookkeeper and sometimes cook for Buddy’s Tavern in Swedesboro and later retired from Century Savings Bank in Mullica Hill. She enjoyed card games, traveling and time with her grandsons. She is predeceased by her husband and surviving are her children, Harry (Laura) Zappala daughter Susan Zappala, her grandsons Giovonni and Zachary and her brother Cleo (Janice) Surratt. She will be buried next to her beloved husband in the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 240 N. Tuckahoe Rd, Williamstown, NJ. In lieu of usual remembrances, direct memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
