Ed had the uncanny ability to balance a sense of ruggedness with the manners of the truest gentleman. From his earliest days he was always known to make an impact on the football and baseball teams at Bordentown High School. He fed his adventurous spirit with adventures in the great outdoors. He could often be found fishing/hunting with his buddies in the Mountain View Gun Club and had even been known to tackle the whitewater rapids of the Grand Canyon. When it came to work, he showed the type of dedication and leadership that saw him rise to a position managing hundreds of people at United Aero Products in Burlington. When it was time for leisure he was always up for an Eagles or Phillies game while enjoying a Pabst Blue Ribbon or any movie with John Wayne in it.
Although wherever he went he had a good time, his favorite place was with his family. Come Christmas he was less John Wayne and more Clark W. Griswold. On Fridays, he filled his home in Delanco with family for pizza night. It was here that the best times were had around the dining room table sharing stories and a lot of laughter. The kitchen was transformed into a dance floor and spoons became microphones to recant Frank Sinatra songs.
As a young man Ed and a friend went to a dance at the Riverside Firehouse and met two young ladies, one of whom was Norma (Horton). He thought she was pretty and had a beautiful personality; she thought he was just a good guy. In 1952 they began their 60 years of marriage. Together they were blessed with their daughters: Debbie Gerber (Ray) of Medford, Sandy Scheetz (Bobby) of Delanco and Patty Brock (Ron) of Delanco and again by their grandchildren: Julia Bernd, Jesse Scheetz, Megan DeGroat, Abby Scheetz and Katelyn Gerber and great-grandchildren Madison Scheetz and Brynn DeGroat. Ed is also survived by his brother, Paul Stanton (Anita), sister-in-law Leah Smith (Jay) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor “Sis” Keating.
