John J. (Jack) Flanagan
John J. (Jack) Flanagan of Delran, son of the late Francis and Dora (Klein) Flanagan and husband of the late Margaret M. ( Marcin) Flanagan passed away on October 10, 2014 at Seasons Hospice in Phoenixville, PA. Jack was born October 21, 1925 in Bethlehem, PA. He graduated from Bethlehem Technical High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1946. Jack graduated from Lehigh University in 1950 with a degree in electrical engineering and married Margaret July 1, 1950. Jack was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Margaret (Dan) Hall, his brother Francis (Jeanette), his brother Jim (Mary Lou), and his sister Mary Kathryn (John) Policelli.
Jack is survived by his son, John J. Flanagan, MD and daughter-in-law Deborah M. Rosa, MD of Phoenixville, PA, grandchildren Megan (Chris) Kellner of Bristow, VA, Adam (Elly) Hall of Carnegie, PA, Christina (Roth) Valencia, of Flagstaff, AZ, Betsy Hall of Pittsburgh, PA, Heide Hall of Bethesda, MD, Lauren Flanagan of St. Petersburg, FL, Brandon Flanagan of Phoenixville, PA and great grandchildren Emmagene Valencia and Lilliana Valencia, Josh Kellner and Kaylee Kellner, Henry Hall and Margaret Hall.
Jack was a member and past President of the Lay Advisory Board of Holy Redeemer Hospital, Meadowbrook, PA until he moved to New Jersey. He was active at St. Peter’s Church as an Usher, member and past President of the Holy Name Society, and served as co-chairman of St. Peter’s Carnival for several years. Jack was a member and past President of the Serra Club of Burlington County. Jack was also a member of St. John Neuman Council Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 3020, Delran.
Jack retired from RCA in 1989 after 30 years and having worked at RCA facilities in Moorestown, Camden, Cherry Hill, Somerville, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and GE facility at Research Triangle Park, Raleigh, NC.
Jack and Margaret enjoyed using their timeshare to visit many resorts throughout the country. They enjoyed spending the winters in Florida playing golf and meeting new friends.
Jack was known for his integrity, being a constant gentleman, father and mentor to more than just his children. Even in his last days, everyone who met him, noted his kindness, courteous manner and caring for others despite his own suffering. Jack lived life as an active participant, he will be missed, but never forgotten.
Come celebrate Jack’s 88 wonderful years Friday from 7-9 pm and Saturday from 9-10 am at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, N.J. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:30 at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church (St. Peter’s Site), Riverside. Entombment to follow at St. Peter’s Mausoleum. Following the burial will be a luncheon at the VFW on Fairview St., Delran, N.J.

We were his neighbors for over 30 years. John was a gentlemen’s gentlemen. We helped to keep the house and property secure during Margaret’s illness. They were the best neighbors anyone could have. We will miss him as we missed his wife.

extend my sincere condolences.
Death is truly an enemy but there is comfort in the Bible
that “God will actually swallow up death forever and
certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” Isaiah 25:8
Hold onto the beautiful memories of Jack and continue
to have the love and support from family and friends.
The superlative “inspirational” witnessed the life of Jack and his presence will be missed. As a model citizen his leadership of men was one of constant goodness. Most of all I was taught to be responsible for my actions by the example of Jack. My vocation to the Franciscan order is enhanced by the prayerful support of the Serra Members. May the soul of Jack be at peace in the embrace of his celestial family, and they continue to help us as we mourn them.

I remember my parents, Howard (Scotty) and Ruth Scott doing many activities together around St. Pete’s with both Margaret and Jack Flanagan. In going through my Mom’s things, (she passed on Sept. 20th) I came across a picture of her and Margaret from a newspaper clipping, planning a fashion show. Jack and my dad were very involved in Holy Name as well, and I have memories of them being good friends. Now they are all together again, with no suffering, no pain- only good times together for eternity.
