John R. Barnes

It has been noted that time has a way of showing that the most stubborn are usually the most dedicated. As such, John’s dedication could never be doubted. His devotion to family went hand-in-hand with his work ethic. Given the opportunity, he’d work 7 days a week to give them the extras in life. Outside the home his time was best spent on others. During the holidays he could always be found delivering Christmas baskets with the Knights of Columbus, served as a county committeeman for many years, served as president of the FDR Club and was also president of the Riverside Koffee Club. A truck driver for 40 years, he was the original GPS. Affectionately known as “Mr. Rand McNally” there was seemingly no place on Earth he couldn’t provide directions to. A ravenous sports fan, John suffered with the Phillies and Eagles, always rooted for Duke and could be found in the stands during the Riverside games. rnDuring a blind date at the roller skating rink John met a young woman named Julia (nee Blanzola). It would not be long until their 55 year marriage would begin. Together they were blessed with their children: John (Pat) of Wenonah, Joy Kasowski (Chuck) of Riverside, Monica Schmidt (Jack) of Croydon, PA and Paul (Susan) of Riverside, and again by their grandchildren: Alison and Kevin Barnes, Chuck and Katie Kasowski, Jack and Jen Schmidt and Steven Barone and Nina Barnes. John is also survived by his brothers Donald, James and Pete.rnCome celebrate 81 dedicated years (12/9/1928 – 3/18/2010) Tuesday from 8:30-10:30 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 at St. Peter’s Church, Riverside. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery. rn
