Jose J Soares

Jose J Soares

Jose knew that although other things may change us, we begin and end with family. His family was the most important thing in his life. Dinner was more than just a meal, it was a sacred time for the family to be together, his home was never complete unless it was full of grandchildren to spoil, and come New Year’s Eve the year always ended and began in each other’s company. But his heart and home were open to more than just family. He often took in those who where immigrating to the U.S., he worked tirelessly to help found the Portuguese Club in Riverside and even helped raise many of the donations necessary to install the statue of the Holy Mother at St. Peter’s Church. However, it was always the simpler things that made him happy; he was often found tending to his garden, listening to fado music and rooting for F.C. Porto.rn While attending a dance, both Jose and a friend noticed a young woman named Noemia (nee Rego), but Jose was quicker on his feet, and the first to ask her to dance. It would not be long until their life together would begin. They were blessed by their children: Fernando (Tina) and Carlos (Vera) both of Lumberton and the late Domingos. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Vincenzo, Santino, Armando and Niko. rn Come celebrate Jose’s 65 family-centered years Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday from 9-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM at St. Peter’s Church, Riverside. Interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to The Portuguese Club, 125 Lafayette Ave, Riverside 08075.rn
