Joseph A. DalyrnrnStrength does not come from physical capacity, but an indomitable will. As the rock of his family, there was never a time he lacked the strength to lead them. “Pop” always had sound advice, a firm handshake and an undying love for his family. Come Sunday evening, nothing made him happier than to have everyone at his dinner table at his home in Edgewater Park. Having proudly served the Marines as a K9 specialist at Iwo Jima, he returned with both a love of dogs and ability to enjoy every day to its fullest. And although he loved to hunt, fish and spend his weekends in Beach Haven West, like any true Irishman, his favorite was trips to the Emerald Isle. rnJoe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth (Merrill), with whom he ran the Beverly News Agency in Beverly from 1948 to 1963. Before retiring Joe spent 32 years as a pipe fitter for U.S. Pipe in Burlington. He is the father of Susan Matthews (Richard) of Beverly, Brian of Edgewater Park, Michael of Florida and the late Jim and Cindy Daly. He is also survived by his sister Alvina Phillips of Beverly, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. rnCome celebrate Joe’s 84 strong years (July 22, 1926-Jan. 8, 2011) Saturday from 9 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, Beverly, where Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM. Interment in Monument Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital PO Box 2151 Memphis, TN 38101. Arrangements handled by the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. rn

Many kind thoughts to the family of Joseph A. Daly. Much love to Kelly, Dennis and the children.
We all grew up with joe. It’s hard to think of Beverly or Edgewater without Joe Daly. He saw no color of skin and help everyone in town. He would lend you money or give you food even if he didn’t have it for him self. He was a good church member and a good leader. When his boy died he took in his grand kids and raised them to be good people. He will be missed by this community more then most folks. God bless you wild Irishman. They will never make an other one like you. God Speed my friend.
