Les, age 80 saw humor everywhere and commented on it with his dry and quick witted remarks. His Country Walk newsletter was laced with his humor giving his Mickleton neighbors a good chuckle. He was a Paulsboro High School graduate also a grad of Goldey College and attended Rutgers University. Les worked at Mobil Oil in Paulsboro as a Purchasing Agent and later with Pilgrim Steel Co. in Glassboro. rnHe is survived by a sister, Joan Mattson, of Woodbury.rnServices were private. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of the donors choice.rn

Joan, just wanted to offer my sincere sympathy and let you know I was thinking of you. Regards, Kathy (Clarksboro)
Joan, Read Les’ obituary in todays paper with sadness. Many memories of our years working together. We had many laughs and he taught me alot about purchasing and inventory. I will be keeping you in my prayers and thoughts.
JoannYour brother was a remarkable man. I worked with him at Pilgrim Steel many years ago when there was only a few of us in the office, at the time it was a one girl office who did the Girl Friday office work, Sam, George, Les and Me. I wondered where people went but I didn’t expect to one day look and find them here. He was a great guy all around, all those who knew him will surely miss him. My prayers are with you.nnBetty
Les Mattson….at one time was a powerhouse and household name to those radio enthusiasts who subscribed to the newsletter which he published called the North East Scanning News. Les gave me my first real shot at writing in the early 1990’s, since then I have written hundreds of articles, I am eternally grateful to Les for offering me that opportunity. Les….dry sense of humor for sure is truly missed. After Les retired from NESN I often wondered what happened to him, I only wish I found about about this in a timely fashion. RIP.
