Martha – Siwak

Martha SiwakrnrnEdgewater Park ResidentrnrnHer Polish roots shown through her love and devotion to family. At her table she served up a steady stream of Polish cuisine: Pierogis, Golumpki, pigs in a blanket and Chrusciki were a few of her staples. If you were having a party she’d ask how many pounds of potato salad were needed. For Martha crocheting was more than a hobby: every grandchild received a blanket matched to their room color and she was even known to use her knitted creations as currency. A Polish Falcon’s Club dance in Conshohocken lead to a 33 year marriage to the late Henry. They’d make their way to Edgewater Park and become one of the first lunchbox families.rnDuring the war she was Rosie the Riveter working to produce tank tires. Later years found her running the lady’s department at Kings Department Store.rnIn her retirement she loved to travel. Most memorable was her trip to Branson to see Bobby Vinton. Andy Williams was also a favorite crooner, but she set aside her Sunday mornings to listen to the radio and try to determine who stole the kishka.rnShe was known as Sarge to her five children: Henry, Dennis (Rosemarie), Deborah (Sherman), Thomas (Merrily), and Leonard (MaryPat); as Babchi or Mom-Mom she would spoil her eight grandchildren and is survived by her sister, Florence.rnCome celebrate 85 years of family devotion Tuesday from 9 – 10 a.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro St., Riverside where there will be a service at 10 a.m. Interment private. Contributions to Cooper River West Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 5101 N. Park Drive, Pennsauken NJ or Beverly-Edgewater Park Emergency Squad PO Box 131 Beverly, NJ 08010 will be appreciated.

I really didn’t know her as Martha just Babchi.rnShe was a very strong woman and I have many fond memories of her, football in the front yard and the feast she had for us afterwards, the family parties she always made me feel a part of, she was always the giver not a taker.rnRemember, God will never give us more than we can bear and he is with you through every step in your life.rnOur sincere thoughts and prayers are with you.rnrnWith our deepest sympath,rnMike and Helen Toner and Familyrnrnrnrnrnrn
