Richie Barber

Richie Barber

He could turn a wrench. For years Richie kept the fleet at Bentley moving and later years found him keeping Racite farms in business. Friend and family alike relied on his handyman skills. He’d always be available to help out as long as your refrigerator was full of Coors. The empties would be hidden around your house. Grandkids were taught at an early age that since “they were up” they should get him beer and recycle it when he was done. He was the quintessential Swedesboro resident. He was born, bred, lived and died within the one square mile. He even quit a job once because it required he be out of the boro 8 hours a day. His family, home, and pool were all he needed for happiness. Throw in horseshoes and washers and he’d be in heaven.rnHe was approached to teach a young lady how to drive. It wasn’t long until the guy with the pink Ford had won over Barbara. Within a year they’d marry. Their 46 year marriage was blessed with four children: Amy Morris (Ted), Rick, April Fazio (John), and Deron (Robin) and 8 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Leon, and sisters, Mary Mathias and Elaine Matteo. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Bobbie Roberts.rnCome celebrate 67 easy going years Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro. Aunt Barb, Amy, Rick, April, Deron, and the rest of the family, nUncle Richie will be SOOO missed. This write up of him is beautiful and a testament of how simple, loving, and wonderful he was and how we were all blessed to have him in our lives. I can’t think of my childhood without Unc being in pretty much a majority of those memories. nnLove to you all… nLiz and Dave

So sorry to hear of Richie’s passing. The Swedesboro High School Class of 1963 will miss him as will I personally. We shared many classes starting in Auburn Avenue School through our years in elementary school. God speed. May you rest in peace.

Daddy B was a huge part of my childhood. It was great knowing I could walk in the house like part of the family and he or mommy B were always there for me. He and the whole Barber family made my life a whole lot brighter. I will always be grateful. The past couple years I got to know him all over again and he was still as special and kind as I remembered him. He had a riot with the guys at The Diner while drinking coffee and eating breakfast. Some nights he would stop by for dinner and a chat and keep me updated on the family news. He was so proud of all of you. We were all blessed to have him in our lives. I thank him and mommy B for everything. I love you guys–Jen

  6. Tank and Eileen says:

One Thanksgiving many years ago Junior and Tank were leaving the next day for PA deer hunting when Junior realized that the lights on his truck weren’t working. They called Richie and he spent his Thanksgiving evening fixing them so the guys could leave the following morning. How many would have done that, especially since hunting didn’t start until Monday? Very few, but Richie did because that’s the kind of person he was. He will always be remembered. Our prayers to Barbara and family.

Barb..From day one when i met your husband, he always treated me like part of the family..made me smile, laugh, and was a joy to be around. Then when he became my father in law..he was always there to lend a helping hand..and when Kolby came along, he never went a day without stopping over to see him..things may not have worked out with Deron and I..and life goes on..i always considered him my father in law..and always will..my prayers to all of you Kari
