Russell C. Shiveler

Russell, age 88 years, died Tuesday October 20 at his Woolwich Twp. home and passed to the comfort of God’s Kingdom. He was born on the Oak Grove family farm son of the late Walter and Lillian Shiveler and lived his whole life in the Swedesboro area.
Russell was a long time employee of Monsanto Chemical Co., but his true labor of love was working on the family farm and in his garden tending and harvesting strawberries, peas and other vegetables. He also spent untold hours as the caretaker of Old Stone Church. With his brother, George Shiveler, Mike Homan, Marvin Dare, and Jack Wright, he was part of the committee which patiently completed the restoration of this historic structure just in time for its bicentennial celebration. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Repaupo and Swedesboro.
Russell is survived by his loving family: his wife of 62 years Mary (Simkins),: his three children and their spouses, Elaine and Stephen Murphy, Russell and Kathy Shiveler, Donna and Greg Paranto, and six grandchildren: Daniel Murphy and Stephanie Murphy, Sara Shiveler, David Shiveler, Nicholas Paranto and Alyssa Paranto. He was greatly comforted in his last days by their tender care and by their heartfelt prayers. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen Linnekin and Marie Young. He was predeceased by six brothers : Lewis, Norman, Earle, Archer, George and Walter (Pat). And two sisters, Francis Stewart and Ruth Shiveler.
Services will be Saturday, October 24 at 11:30 a.m. at Old Stone Church , Stone Meeting House Rd., Woolwich Twp with calling there from 10a.m. Visitation on Friday will be at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Aldine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, 1433 Kings Hwy., Swedesboro 08085 for the upkeep of Old Stone Church, in honor of Russell’s many years of faithful stewardship there.

    Our condolences and prayers go out to all the Shiveler family. The fine character we see in Bro Russ, Sis Kathy and young Sara and Dave, speak deeply of generational quality passed on by Sr Russell. We are extremely blessed that God has brought them into our life.

    My daughters and I express our sympathies for the passing of Uncle Russell. We enjoyed seeing the Stone Meeting Church, and he devoted many hours to the up keep of the grounds over the years.
