Ruth Gardner Cardillo

Ruth Gardner Cardillo

The editor of Bridgeton’s 1946 High School yearbook got her right. Next to Ruth’s name was written: Continuous babble…live wire…caution…impulsive…day wasted without fun. She continued with her fun and laughter throughout her 80 years. Ruth was the Queen of one liners, passed on great jokes and was quick witted. She kept smiles on the faces of fellow workers at Erdner Trucking, members of Swedesboro Presbyterian Church, and Aged to Perfection Seniors. rnLeft to carry the laughter mantle are her son, Joseph and daughter, Connie, a brother, Ralph Gardner and a sister, Alice Boston and four grandchildren: Matthew and Elizabeth Peterson and Danial and Gina Cardillo.rnA private graveside Service at her request was held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Elmer. Leave a memory of Ruth at lifecelebrationstudio.com. Arrangements by Daley Life Celebration Studio.rn

I remember going to see one of the Beetles movies with Connie, Joe and Aunt Ruth in Woodbury when we were kids. Behind us were kids that were talking out loud and all of a sudden Aunt Ruth turned around and shouted “keep quiet bucket mouth”. And then there was silence. That’s when I knew I wanted to always be on her side.nnWe had been out of each others lives over the years and brought together most recently finding we battled a common enemy which took her earlier. Even at that we found time to meet often to play pinocle with Cousin Joe and my brother Joe…a weak paring against the likes of Aunt Ruth and me. nnAunt Ruth was a strong personality, and with a caring compassionate heart and filled with laughter. I think that was her purpose in life: to make you laugh and feel good. You couldn’t help but love her. She leaves a void that cannot be filled…plus a long list of memories. nnYou will be loved by God in Heaven Aunt Ruth.

Aunt Ruth was a live wire,we disagreed with politics which led to some lively discussions, she was a competitive pinochle player I played with her when Mom & Pop were alive and later with Michael and Joe. She always wanted to play another game if she was losing. Sadly missed, long rembered.

I will miss Aunt Ruth! As I kid, I labeled her the “fun” aunt. It didn’t matter where we were or what was going on, she was having a good time and she brought you along with her. To Joe and Connie and your families, I wish you peace, strength, and love.

  9. Terri Sabatini says:

Rest in Peace my beautiful friend. I will always remember the times we had at the beach, and the barbecues in the summertime. But most of all the phone calls we shared. You were always there to listen and laugh.
