Bill died Oct. 29 at his Delanco home with his family by his side.
He had a wonderful sense of humor. Unlike most people who think of a great line a few hours later, Bill had it in an instant. Because of the fact that the players worked hard but aren’t paid he preferred college football to the pros. He saw it as a more pure form of the sport. Except for Saturdays when he’d watch some games, Bill could always be found tinkering with projects around the home. He hardly ever called a handyman. Even if he wasn’t sure how, he’d always take a shot at fixing things. With the help of a few how-to books he was even able to build an edition onto the back of his house. Bill worked for the Postal Service in Philadelphia for 40 years and served in the Army during WWII.
A young Teresa Sweeney caught William’s eye as he walked down a Philadelphia Street. A few days later he called her and asked her out. Their 63 year marriage was full of love, free of arguments and blessed by two children, Mary of Delanco and the late Bill of Riverside who passed away in 2007 and two grandchildren, William of Riverside and Jacqueline of Cinnaminson. He is also survived by his daughter in law, Joan of Riverside, sisters-in-law, Marguerite Sweeney and Kathleen Gibney of Philadelphia and brother in law, Frank (Ann) Sweeney of Langhorne PA. He was Pre-deceased by his brothers, Joe, Lou, Tony, and Al and his sisters, Laura, Edith and Ellen.
Come celebrate 92 great years, Saturday 10 – 11 a.m. at St. Casimir Church, Riverside, where there will be a Mass at 11 a.m. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Cinnaminson. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parish of the Resurrection, 260 Conrow Rd, Delran NJ 08075 will be appreciated.
